Standing Together Against Bullying Through Youth Voices

Standing Together Against Bullying

In collaboration with Maui High School’s Digital Design Work-Based Learning (WBL) class, the Maui Police Department (MPD) is proud to partner with Senior Ivy Bulosan to share a powerful message of unity, respect, and resilience.

Through art, culture, and youth leadership, this project reminds us that how we treat one another matters—and that together, we can rise above negativity and bullying.

We are honored to share Ivy’s words and vision exactly as she expressed them:

"Surfing is Hawaii’s largest cultural sport. The sport reflects the importance of community pride, personal growth, and leadership. All values that Hawaii holds dear.

We need to come together as a community and move forward to overcome hardships. To lift each other up instead of pulling each other down. To lead lives of respect for one another and standing against negativity. That is the way we should live: the County Way.

I wanted to convey this message through my design, featuring a scene of two students surfing at the beach. The girl, holding her surfboard high with confidence, is a symbol of resilience and eagerness to take on a leadership role. The boy offers a shaka in a friendly and inviting gesture. Together, they represent the next generation. Like a wave, rising against bullying and its tide that threatens to break our community apart. Not only serving as a warning against the 'don'ts' but also celebrating the 'dos' of kindness, respect, and unity.

As a senior in high school myself, I believe the combination of the meaningful sport and an anime style helps convey this message effectively to others, especially around my age."

Mahalo to Ivy Bulosan and the Maui High School Digital Design WBL class for using creativity to inspire change. Let’s continue to lift each other up.
