Gun Buyback Program

The Maui Police Department, in collaboration with the Department of Law Enforcement (DLE), the Office of the Governor, and the Department of the Attorney General, will host a Gun Buyback Event at the Maui County Service Center (110 Alaihi Street, Kahului), on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This initiative aims to enhance public safety by offering individuals an anonymous opportunity to turn in unwanted firearms, no questions asked and no identification required.

Event Guidelines:

Firearm Transport:

- All firearms must be unloaded and securely placed in a container or box in the vehicle trunk.

- Individuals must remain in their vehicles while law enforcement personnel remove the firearms from the trunk.

Participants will receive:

- A $100 gift card for turning in handguns, rifles, shotguns, bump stocks, and Glock switches.

- A $200 gift card for automatic firearms of any type, semi-automatic assault-type rifles, and ghost guns.

Limitations:

- Ammunition will not be accepted.

-Each individual may turn in an unlimited number of firearms, but can receive a maximum of three gift cards.

- Licensed firearms dealers and active or retired law enforcement personnel are not eligible to participate.

- On-site officials reserve the right to refuse the acceptance of any firearm or the issuance of a gift card at their discretion.

Free Gun Locks:

- Free gun locks will be distributed while supplies last.

This community-focused event is part of a broader effort to reduce the risk of gun violence and accidental shootings by removing unwanted and potentially dangerous weapons from homes and streets.
