Scam Alert

The Maui Police Department wants to warn the community about a recurring fake jewelry scam.

Scammers are approaching individuals in parking lots or going door-to-door, claiming they need cash for travel and offering fake gold jewelry for sale. DO NOT purchase jewelry from anyone who approaches you on the street or at your home.

Legitimate jewelers operate from established locations, such as brick-and-mortar stores, pop-up shops, or verified online businesses.

The most recent incident occurred on Thursday, February 13, 2025, in the parking lot of 55 Pukalani Street in Pukalani. Two men were taken into custody after a citizen's arrest for harassment and attempted fourth-degree theft following an alleged attempt to sell fake gold jewelry.

Stay vigilant. If you are approached by someone to buy jewelry or observe something suspicious, report it by calling (808) 244-6400 or 911 in an emergency.
