Today marks National School Resource Officer Day, dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions and dedication of School Resource Officers (SROs). These individuals play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students, staff, and faculty within our school communities.
While SROs carry a wide range of daily responsibilities, they operate in accordance with the standards established by the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO). These standards emphasize the triad model of school-based policing, in which SROs serve as law enforcement officers, informal counselors, and educators—working collaboratively to promote safety, mentorship, and positive engagement within the school community.
Currently, the Maui Police Department has eight SROs assigned to schools throughout the county:
Baldwin High School
Hana High and Elementary School
King Kekaulike High School
Lahainaluna High School
Maui High School
Maui Waena Intermediate School
Lana'i High and Elementary School
Moloka'i High School
Please join us in thanking your SRO for their dedication to our students and community!!
