MPD Seeks Public Assistance in Arson Investigation

PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUEST


The Maui Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in an ongoing arson investigation.


On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at approximately 3:10 a.m., police responded to a report of four trash cans on fire at the Honokowai Marketplace. Upon arrival, officers discovered two trash cans ablaze in front of a supermarket, a third near the loading dock, and a fourth on the north side of the shopping center in front of a restaurant.


Video surveillance captured an individual setting the trash cans on fire before fleeing south on foot.


At approximately 5:05 a.m., police received a report of smoke and flames at a condominium located at 2661 Kekaa Drive. Upon arrival, officers located several plastic recycling bins on fire.
