Crash Responder Safety Week: Protect Those Who Protect Us

November 17- 21, 2025, is National Crash Responder Safety Week.

Traffic incidents are the number one cause of death for emergency responders nationwide.

As part of Crash Responder Safety Week, the Maui Police Department would like to remind motorists to slow down and move over if it’s safe to do so when approaching a roadside emergency vehicle.

When a vehicle with flashing lights is stopped on or next to a roadway, drivers approaching the vehicle should:

- change into a lane not immediately adjacent to the vehicle

- or if unable to safely make a lane change, slow down to a reasonable speed

Please do your part and help to keep first responders working at a roadway incident safe.

Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone.
