August is Pedestrian Safety Month in Hawaii.
Pedestrian Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility
- Nearly half of all fatal pedestrian crashes involve alcohol — from either the driver or the pedestrian.
- Most pedestrian deaths happen at night, especially outside of crosswalks.
- Higher speeds significantly increase the risk of serious injury or death.
- Be mindful of pedestrians when backing out of driveways or parking stalls.
- Use extra caution when driving in bad weather.
- If there is no sidewalk, always walk on the side of the roadway facing on-coming traffic.
Let’s work together to keep our roads safe.
