POLICE OFFICER I

Maui Police Department offers opportunities to grow and to advance in the ranks for Police Officer positions. All sworn personnel begin as a patrol officer after successfully completing the recruit classroom and field training. From there, they will serve in patrol in one of the six districts of Maui County, including Molokai, Lanai and Hana Districts. After serving a minimal time, they are eligible to apply for one of the many specialized units available in Maui County, or take a Promotional exam and move up the ranks and become either a supervisor or a detective.

Ranks:

Police Officer I - Entry Level
Police Officer II - Upon successful completion of Recruit/FTO Training
​Police Officer III (Temporary) - Field Training Officers or Specialized Units

Promotional Ranks:
​
Sergeant/Detective - Eligible after 5 years patrol experience or 3 with college degree, must pass promotional exam
Lieutenant - Eligible after successfully completing probation as a sergeant/detective, must pass promotional exam
Captain - Eligible after 3 years experience as a Lieutenant
Assistant Chief - Must have 3 years experience as a Captain and a Bachelors Degree
Deputy Chief - Appointed by the Police ChiefPolice Chief - Appointed by Maui County Police Commission
